What makes a word eligible?
Entries use exactly four letters from A–Z. The list includes common English words, established inflections and selected modern words, such as BLOG and BOOP. Plurals and verb forms can count when they are listed: POOS and POOH are both accepted.
We don’t accept a spelling solely because it is someone’s name or an abbreviation. Some spellings also have ordinary English meanings. The word checker provides the exact answer for the current list; being absent from Poopdle doesn’t mean a word never exists in English.
Familiar starts, open possibilities
Daily starting words are selected from a familiar-word pool. Every scheduled puzzle is checked for a route to POOP, with a familiar-word shortest solution available. You can still discover another route using any accepted word.
Why was my move rejected?
- The input must contain exactly four letters.
- The word must be in the current Poopdle dictionary.
- It must change exactly one letter of your current word.
- It cannot already appear on your current ladder. Use Undo to go back.
The game tells you which condition failed, and an invalid move never changes your score.
Where the words come from
The list builds on the public-domain ENABLE word-game dictionary, with commonness and spelling information derived from SCOWL and frequency data. We maintain a curated set of modern additions and filter highly offensive entries. Familiarity affects which routes we show first, never whether a submitted word counts.

Dictionary changes
Published puzzles are tied to their dictionary version. A future update must preserve the original word list for old puzzles and challenges. We won’t silently change the shortest route on a completed puzzle.
